Beating Cancer Together.
Researchers, donors, institutions and partners came together around one shared goal: beating cancer together. With its Beating Cancer Together initiative, the Foundation against Cancer reaffirms its commitment by investing €35 million to support 68 research projects across Belgium.
This event celebrated more than numbers. It highlighted the passion, perseverance and collaboration of those who move science and hope forward every single day.
The supported projects cover a wide range of fields, including rare cancers such as paediatric glioblastoma or cancers during pregnancy, hard-to-treat cancers such as pancreatic cancer, new therapeutic approaches in radiotherapy and immunotherapy, as well as common cancers such as lung, colorectal, breast and prostate.
Among the laureates, Professor Benoit Van den Eynde (UCLouvain – de Duve Institute) was recognised for his research on immunotherapy and the tumour microenvironment. Professor Lars Vereecke (Ghent University – UGent) explores the role of the microbiome in colorectal cancer. Dr Laurence Buisseret (ULB – Institut Jules Bordet) focuses her work on luminal B breast cancer.
Two special awards were also presented at KU Leuven. Professor Massimiliano Mazzone was honoured for his fundamental research on breast cancer, and Professor Diether Lambrechts for his translational and clinical research towards a future vaccine against liver cancer.
Each project tells a story of innovation, courage and hope. And behind each breakthrough lies the trust and generosity of donors who make these advances possible.
Congratulations to all the winning teams and thank you to everyone for helping turn research into tangible progress.
